Welcome back into the fold, Brother Darth J.
Steve Benson is one of the Lord's choicest missionaries.
He has the power to make new Mormons by unfounded accusation.
It is a new kind of "sealing power."

Sorry, just trying to help.
It wasn't aimed at you Brad, you are on topic....those other reprobates however....
That said, with the Book of Mormon, we are not dealing with a civilization with no written record. What we are dealing with is a written record with no civilization. (Runtu, Feb 2015)
Steve Benson wrote: Monson has not admitted to any factual errors in his renditions of his Patton fable. He has simply re-baked his latest version to cover over his factual flops in the first, hoping that the faithful flock won't remember the initial rollout and blindly accept the second. There is plenty of hard evidence that Monson was both mistaken and lying, in both versions. The "body" was not in the right place or the right time in either Monson's 1969 first fly-by or in his second 2007 Kamikaze dive.
Close enough, Patton was known to "Tommy" as boys in school know each other. "Close boyhood friend" might be a stretch. But he does have that "Tommy" letter from Arthur's mother. Patton vanishes from human knowledge on a combat ship and TSM paints it as a "casualty of war". So what. The point of the story is that faith in the afterlife Trump's tragedy in this life.
I have felt understanding for your position over the years. To have the highest men in the church manipulate your grandfather like they obviously did is disturbing. Why not point out that with the same depth that you devote to debunking a partial myth?...
A significant part of the story (since it is Monson himself who has so often repeated it) is that Patton died, in battle, as a WW II combat casualty. Are you trying to ignore that oft-noted claim by Monson? Now, if only "prophet" Monson had admitted he was in the business of "partial" mythologizing. Then, at least he would be a partially-honest prophet.
(P.S.--I have, over many years, spoken publicly and at length about the Mormon Church's manipulation of my grandfather. No need for you to try to change the subject here).

Although, I think the bigger tragedy here, which is not getting any of the press it deserves as long as we focus on the alleged fibs of Thomas S. Monson, is that anyone considers President Monson "the prophet" in the first place. I have no objection to him being the president of the LDS Church, alleged fibs and all, but I have a real difficult time picturing any of these CEOs of Mormonism as "the prophet."
