Back when the Affordable Care Act was passed and the media was rebranding it Obamacare, I ended up being very disappointed in President Obama over his response. I personally thought the ACA rebranding was an attempt to focus the attention away from the benefits it provided to the average American who might benefit from health care reform and instead cast it as part of the Obama-as-socialist-dictator boogeyman propaganda war. But rather than reaffirm the law's name reflected directly on what it was intended to do, Obama basically said he was happy to own the Obamacare rebranding as part of his personal legacy. It seemed like a missed opportunity to reframe the public discussion and instead his ego and "winning" turned out to be more important than helping people better understand what was really going on with a complicated and incomplete but well-meaning piece of controversial legislation. I sent a few disappointed emails which I'm sure never went past some pimply millennial intern's "nope" box.
It reaffirmed to me that anyone with enough ego to seek and become the President is going to have negative ego-based personality traits that interfere with their doing their job. Maybe the future will prove there are exceptions but I'm skeptical. Also, it's bad for the country when we turn politics into high school sports rather than seeing it as a fragile balancing act between vying self-interested parties with no real incentive to do what is right for the citizens unless we make sure they know they are accountable to us rather than our being vehicles to carry them around on our shoulders.
I say that because I don't get why you feel obligated to reinterpret Trump's words. You want a parade that honors vets? Demand it. It isn't what Trump said he wanted, and if you act like it is then he'll get his dick-waving event all to his own honor while Huckabee tells us that having big military machines roll down Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the President was a great way to honor the troops.
It's about the Troops, not the president. In Band of Brothers towards the end when Germany was surrendering, Captain Sobel walked past newly promoted Major Winters, and did not salute Winters. They did not like each other and Sobel abused Winters when he was just a Lieutenant. Winters called out Sobel for not saluting, and said "Captain Sobel we salute the Uniform."
My point is this is about our Troops...and I really believe this is long deserved.
If you think Trump, Clinton, Shummer, Cruz, Pilosi... or any one of these hacks are noble and true, or care about you...you are naïve. This again is about those that
have(past, present, and future) sacrificed for us to be wanna be know it all's on forums like this. I really believe that, and for me, that is what this parade would be.
If you wanna bash Trump, bash him for having a big mouth...and I will most likely agree with you.
