Dan McClellan on Mormon Stories

Post by Tom »

Mormon Stories has released a podcast featuring Dan McClellan. I haven't listened to all of it, but here is an excerpt in which McClellan discusses Book of Mormon historicity, apologetics, and dogmatism: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPIr68f27VQ&t=5820s

He’s doing incredible work making space for Mormons who have a brain. I just hope the church doesn’t excommunicate him like they did Dehlin.

Well, I happen to know that there is at least one Apostle who now wishes they hadn't excommunicated Dehlin. Since excommunication, Dehlin has become bigger and more influential than anyone in the church could have imagined. The church honestly thought by excommunicating Dehlin, he would fade away and become irrelevant. viewtopic.php?t=157437

Dan McClellan is untouchable. Once someone becomes famous, the church leaves them alone. Just look at the lead singer for the band Neon Trees, Tyler Glenn. Tyler openly made music videos mocking the temple ceremony/handshakes and throwing his garments in the trash. Over the years, he also gave numerous public interviews trashing the church leadership calling them dishonest and homophobic.

Not even one single disciplinary action was ever taken against Tyler Glenn. After years and years of trashing church doctrine, leadership and temple ceremonies, Tyler Glenn finally resigned his membership in 2018, but never once was subject to any kind of church disciplinary action.

Dan McClellan is too popular and famous. Dan will never face any type of discipline, ever. The church has learned its lesson with Dehlin. Take that to the bank.

Good for him!

I tried forwarding his stuff to a few rational friends and family members but I’m starting to think most members stay away from anything that might be even close to challenging their conservative religious frameworks.

Look what happened to Spencer W. Kimball after his John Dehlin interview:
