Yea. In both instances, both Nephi and the Lafferty Bros, the fruits/results were that they killed someone according to a voice they heard. That suggests it might be the same voice.

A significant difference is that one of these is a real-life occurrence. However, in the real-life case the perps may have been considered justifiable based on the not-real-life case.
One’s views, of course, may differ on whether or not Laban, Nephi, and Co. actually existed in the real world and yet at/in a different time and place. That would make all the difference.
Joseph’s Nephi (if you can separate the two) had the convenient justification that “God told him to do it.”
Nephi didn’t have to kill Laban, he could have just taken the plates. It was the voices that made him do so. Today we would generally call that mentally unstable.
We don’t know that Tyler wasn’t told by God to do it.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

Again, the fruits/results were much different.

Laban died. Kirk died. The fruits seem similar.

What advantage did having the plates give to the Lehites as they prepared for their journey to the promised land?
What were the fruits of Charlie Kirk’s death? Assuming his wife takes charge of Kirks’s organization, are you saying that Kirk was killed so his wife would grieve and then take his place?
What are you actually saying when you say the fruits “seem similar”?
Glad to hear it. Usually people who talk a lot about the supposed mental health or otherwise of a shooting perpetrator are trying to distract attention from the need to make the USA a bit more like most other western countries in
(a) Restrictions on gun availability
and, consequently ...
(b) much lower rate of gun-related deaths.

Where do think the Brady Bill has failed? From what I’ve seen/researched it appears to be enforced throughout the United States via the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).
I suppose you would like to see more firearm types come under the enforcement statutes of that bill? That has been an ongoing discussion.
But again, the gun that killed Charlie Kirk was an old hunting rifle being used by a very troubled youth. I continue to argue that it is mental health factors exacerbated by social media and other cultural influences that are playing a huge role in school shootings and other mass shootings and too many people either don’t care or are ignoring that fact.

I am not following US firearm restrictions in detail. But they are (Kirk aside) clearly insufficient to prevent would-be shooters from acquiring weapons that can fire a lot of shots quickly, and getting plenty of ammunition to go with them. It seems unlikely to me that UK significantly differs from the US in its number of mentally disturbed people. But we have a lot, lot fewer mass shootings.
Why? Because in the UK it is much more difficult to obtain the kind of firearms that mass shooters in the states commonly use.
Surely that is obvious?

Look, the Lord works in mysterious ways. We don’t know why He wanted Charlie Kirk out of the way. We can speculate that he bore similar hallmarks to a certain Austrian in the 1920’s anns 30’s and perhaps didn’t want the world to go through all that again. But what we do know is that everything happens for a reason.

To be clear, this isn’t a strict doctrinal position of the church. While we understand that some events are part of a divine plan, many others are a direct result of the choices of individuals—both good and bad. So yes, everything happens for a reason…but it might be contrary to what God might like to see happen. There are just too many examples to think otherwise, in and out of the church and throughout history. But that’s not to say that God doesn’t know the end from the beginning when it comes to the final triumph of good over evil even though apostates might like to think otherwise.
