The lie that climate change is a hoax is one of the stupidest and potentially most dangerous lies I know of. Close to 99% of climate scientists agree about its reality. I trust science and scientists far more than I do politicians, even more so than the politicians I most respect. One of my very best internet friends is a recently retired PhD scientist who taught and researched climate and environmental change at Stanford University and how to mitigate it. He is not a wealthy man! He could easily have become immensely wealthy if, like Wei Hock Soon, he accepted millions of dollars in research grants from fossil fuel companies in attempts to "debunk" the reality of anthropomorphic climate change.

This friend of mine is the most intelligent, yet humble and compassionate man I know. He unhesitatingly offered to host me and my wife and down's syndrome daughter at his house for dinner and an overnight stay for me while my wife was staying overnight at Stanford University hospital with my daughter who was there for a sleep study, that determined that she needed a c-pap machine at night. The next day he gave me a tour of the Stanford campus and showed me the projects he was working on with his PhD candidate students to better understand the reality of climate and environmental change and how best to mitigate it. His work and research are very valuable and convincing. So don't you dare try to imply that he is a fraud doing it just for the money! One of his projects was designing a water treatment plant that purifies wastewater to the point that it is cleaner than it was when it came out of the tap, while powering itself using the oxides of Nitrogen found in that wastewater, with enough power left over to send to the electrical grid.

There is no doubt that he knows far more about the reality of anthropomorphic climate and environmental change than you or Trump or any other conservative politician who ignorantly thinks climate change is just a hoax!

The saltwater burbled up - across roads and yards and parks, out of street drains and over the top of crumbling sea walls - a seeping nuisance that every year becomes more of threat for waterfront South Florida.

Seasonal king tides, the annual spate of highest tides of the year, brought coastal flooding across much of the region - much of it relatively minor and brief, thanks in large part to mostly clear and dry skies. Forecasters say Wednesday was likely to be the highest of them for the year, although another handful are still ahead on the calendar and if they coincide with heavy rains, it can easily raise flooding levels.

While the tides are nothing new, many people who live in impacted neighborhoods worry they're getting higher.

In Miami's Little Havana, Skip Alligood, who owns a house right along Grove Park near the Miami River, has seen it during his 22 years there.

"It's getting worse and worse each year - next year, it'll reach my driveway," he said. The only solution, he said, is for the city to fix the sea wall.

"That would increase the property value, but right now, it's decreasing, because who would want to move here, with this going on," he said, standing a couple of feet from the rising water that had already flooded part of the park, the parking lot and public trash cans that were floating around.

King tides are natural. They've always been higher than usual this time of year. But scientists agree they're also supercharged by human-caused climate change, which has sent sea levels climbing in recent decades. Compared to three decades ago, the sea is about eight inches higher.

We’re already on the way there in critical areas. The state has to keep throwing gobs of money at fixing the issues from sea level rise.
