A classic right-wing false dilemma from Whiskey. If a person doesn't personally take care of as many homeless people as they can afford and then some, then they are hypocrites for expecting minimal support from anyone else. My right-wing frenemy tries the same nonsense. If I'm not willing to go to Home Depot and bring back as many illegals as I can fit in my house, then I have no grounds against people like him who are all for throwing them in foreign prisons or whatever is most convenient for getting rid of them. The crazy thing here is that the church he goes to, his pastor is a huge advocate and runs missions helping the homeless and refugees from places like Syria. So on those rare occasions where it comes up, I tell him don't listen to me, listen to his own pastor. He admits he disagrees fully with his pastor but yet still goes to that church instead of a Trump church for whatever reason.

Leaving religion out of it, I agree that it would not be a good policy for unprepared people to take people with major addiction problems off the streets and into their homes. No-one is proposing such an irresponsible policy that I know of. However, as a tax-paying citizen of a town whose local government I have elected, I feel it is right and proper for me to ask my local government to use some of my tax money to fund well-organised shelters with trained staff to give such people a warm place to sleep and something to eat in the hard weather.

If they are well run, such shelters cause no significant disturbance to their locality. I know this from my own experience. And what is more, every person in such a shelter is one less beggar on the street. What's not to like?

So, can a Christian assess risks like you, or no? I thought the whole point of the judgment here was to say what Jesus would do and what a person who loved Jesus did not do.

If such a "warming center" were proposed to be built around my neighborhood, I most certainly would oppose it. I'm a homeowner in a nice and safe neighborhood and I want to keep it that way. What rational person wouldn't?

I don't want drug addicts and mentally ill people wandering around the neighborhood. I don't want my property devalued. If they were going to build it on the edge of town, I wouldn't care, and I would probably donate money to it.

If the city council insists on doing things like this, they should fuqq off and put them in their own neighborhoods.
