in my opinion, we are fortunate to have him - sincerely. I don't think it's that - as someone suggested - we need MG (perhaps more than he needs us). It's been demonstrated during his absences that we can have excellent discussions without MG's input.

I would agree wholeheartedly that Heavenly Father does not want us to stagnate. That is what the Plan of Salvation/Exaltation is all about. A plan of progression and learning. Not only in this life but into the eternities.Philo Sofee wrote: ↑Thu Jan 15, 2026 4:50 amAnd some of us graduate and move upward further into the light that Father promised...... we choose not to stagnate.MG 2.0 wrote:. . . and yet choose to stay because of both spiritual AND intellectual reasons.

Yes, it has. One major thing that happens differently is that posters in general speak for themselves and voice their own opinions. It makes for interesting and informative discussions. People share their areas of expertise and knowledge, leading to a unique learning experience. I appreciate it very much.
However, It unnecessarily interrupts a discussion when someone enters and repeatedly feels the need to inform everyone exactly what he thinks ALL "critics" think, believe, and feel. Invariably he feels the need to inform everyone that it is less worthy, less meaningful, and less important than what HE thinks, believes, and feels. Why? Because he lumps all people who don't agree with him into one group, a group that by his definition is beneath him. He mixes this stereotyping and condescension in with frequently inane comments that he cannot explain or support with evidence. In so doing he demonstrates the very worst of the Mormon lifestyle.
When a person feels the need to come repeatedly to a place he has defined as a cesspool to inform those cesspool residences that he is sure that he is superior to them, one has to wonder who he is trying to convince.

That seems to be a contradiction. If it's been demonstrated that there are excellent discussions without MG's input, why have you concluded that the board needs MG more than MG needs the board?malkie wrote: ↑Thu Jan 15, 2026 12:01 amOn a serious note, I'd like to point out something about MG, and his participation here.

Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

It was me who said the board needs MG more than MG needs the board. But I don’t mean need in the sense of capacity for good discussion—discussions without MG sidetracks are typically very good. What I meant is you can count on MG to provoke discussion. He provides a consistent stream of absurdity that keeps threads from going quiet. He’s almost the reverse idea of “opposition in all things.” What could make his participation better would be more challenging arguments.I Have Questions wrote: ↑Thu Jan 15, 2026 10:17 amThat seems to be a contradiction. It’s ok!Limnor wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 11:26 pmWhy do I let myself get sucked into MG world? Sometimes it’s fun.
What I really wanted to talk about was the sincere fraud thing, but frankly I don’t like it when gad and Kish and IHQ disagree, so I’m hesitant to put my post in there…
Someone encourage me and tell me it’s ok.
I have been enlightened and educated by both Gad and Kish during many of our interactions that started as disagreements (or discussions from different viewpoints). I don’t think either of those two intelligent posters would be daunted by robust discussion. And I know that this much less intelligent poster is more than happy with a strong and direct exchange of ideas. It’s how good learning happens. It’s healthy.

You didn’t have to wait long…malkie wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 10:51 pmI'm beginning to wonder if some apologists have a completely wrong idea about critics.
I always thought that it was uncontroversial that critics will view almost everything about the church through 'different eyes' from faithful members. That has been rather obvious, right? So it seems a bit strange for a faithful member to feel that they have to say it, and then say that they said it, and then reiterate that they said that they said it.
This kind of repetition gets to be a bit boring. However, I'm waiting to see if the poster in question has another go at saying the same thing again.

Stop getting basic Church information wrong. Salvation is different to Exaltation within Mormonism. Salvation costs nothing, Exaltation costs 10% of your income for life, plus you’re expected to consecrate your life to the Church, including the serving of a senior mission.MG 2.0 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 15, 2026 5:01 amI would agree wholeheartedly that Heavenly Father does not want us to stagnate. And it is now The Plan Of Happiness. Has been for ages. It used to be the Plan of Salvation or the Plan of Redemption, but it has never been the Plan of Exaltation. Keep up. Maybe pay more attention to General Conference and Sunday School and you’ll avoid making these kinds of basic mistakes going forward.
