US citizens: Please let me hear your estimate of whether Trump will succeed in getting his "Save America Act" into law before the midterms. It would be nice to know how long the world will have to put up with the uncontrolled and incompetent caprices of this creature.
He's getting significant backlash from his own party on the SAVE act (ironically named, like all his asshole-motivated legislation is) because they think the suggested ID restrictions will hurt their reelection chances more than Democrats. Remember, the GOP relies heavily on the uneducated (for obvious reasons), and those people are way less likely to have a birth certificate or a passport lying around than educated people, people more likely to vote Democrat.
If that doesn't reassure, I'll also say that his dad died with dementia at age 83 (Alzheimer's disease), and it's pretty clear Trump has dementia too, so hopefully, nature will take its course soon and save the world from this capricious, malignant asshole.
Religion is for people whose existential fear is greater than their common sense. It's also the favored cover for hypocrites.
You guys. You need to be watching interviews about the new book "Regime Change" by Haberman/Swan. The book sold out on the first day. This is nuts.

After a google search, it seems there are conflicting reports on his dad's age at death. Another source said he was 93.
If accurate, that's a bummer.

Heh! I hadn't thought of that!

I think he'll get it (or some version of it) rammed through. The primaries showed that while MAGA is a minority, they are still the majority of the Republican party. Any Republicans with ethics and morals won't survive. If you want to be a Republican politician and remain in power (as a Republican), you have to jettison all of your conservative values and embrace the yam-titted god-emperor.
Fealty to Trump is currently the only metric by which a Republica politician can claim to be a Republican, and survive as a Republican.
Sometimes I wonder if Trump is even tending towards celebrating even when he, himself, is suffering. I think he may be calculating that the more he is drawing criticism and anger for his unwanted and hated actions and policies, the more he can present himself as a martyr and thereby prevail on people's tendency to sympathize with martyrs and underdogs. This may at least partially explain why he seems to double down on policies that he must know are unpopular and will generate opposition that he can spin as martyrdom.
He's not this smart. Not even close.
I read an article yesterday that made the case that he likes to cheat. That's the motivation behind rigging the election. He doesn't want to have to do the job of gaining people's approval; he likes having one over on everyone else. He's a conman who likes conning.
I think that nails it. He's not interested in being a good President; he just wants people to believe he is without him having to earn it. It's similar to the way he thinks people should love him despite all his crimes and asshole behavior, like his idiotic fans do.
You are probably right that he is not really that smart, but there is no chance that he will fail to accept and take advantage of his fans' suggestions of undeserved martyrdom.
No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.
My guess is that they are ok with suffering if they believe others are suffering more than they are.
This is the mindset of a submissive.
MAGA types vote into authority their perception of someone they view as authoritative. A father figure, of a sort.
Whatever the case may be, there’s a pastiche of BS going on with the 30% of our country who buy into these kinds of scams. Religious, political, or Nigerian, it’s all the same. Those people are grabby, lack accountability, like to blame others for their own lives, and are generally incapable of asymmetrical thinking.
Hiring a part-time news entertainment anchor as SecDef, what could go wrong?
Agreed, and it's worth repeating until the knuckleheads hear it.
I don't think they want to invest the effort to dig beneath the surface. Most that I see are simply willing to follow.
Yep, that's what I see. There is a you tuber named Parkergetajob who debates MAGA people. It is over the top hilarious. BUT.....he makes powerful points to the MAGA person he is discussing with and they get it! He is pretty dang savvy for his age. He does a lot of shorts and they are priceless! Worth a minute watch to see how he skewers MAGA with their own logic.

I certainly hope it is indeed true that passage of the "SAVE act" would only hurt both Trump and MAGA rather help them, but I'm not sure that would be the case. To me, the scariest potential consequence of that act is that many women whose married name doesn't match the name on their birth certificate might not be able to register to vote. I have no doubt Trump relishes the thought preventing women from voting, not just because they are more likely to oppose him than men are, but because he is an incorrigible misogynist.
I am also opposed to banning voting by mail. Studies have repeatedly shown that voting by mail-in ballots is not more conducive to voter fraud than voting in person. At the very least, if mail-in ballots are to be outlawed, official election days should, by law, become legal holidays, so no one would have to risk being fired for taking time off to vote.
